I couldn’t see! The mix of intense wind and the cold temperature caused my eyes to tear up so severely I couldn’t see where I was going. I stood on the edge of a cliff, using one hand to shield my eyes, the other holding the camera, as the light faded and my chance disappearing with it.
A couple days earlier a friend had mentioned a unique spot she wanted to take me to. She thought I could get a good photo from there and the spot was only accessible by someone with a pass. She happened to have one so I jumped at the chance.
We drove the majority of the way up, then a short hike to the top that held an almost unreal vista. The temperature had dropped substantially, and the wind howled by us. Not to mention the clouds had moved in and covered the sky. It was not looking too promising. But we had some time to kill before sunset so we waited... and hoped.
Right as the sun hit the horizon, the wind became our saving grace and parted the clouds allowing beautiful light rays to pierce through and illuminate the mountains. With the cold wind causing my eyes to tear up, my vision blurred, I found my spot on the edge of a rock. I cleared my eyes, set focus, and fired off several shots.
The moment lasted mere seconds as the rays disappeared and sky darkened once again but it will live forever in this photo!
