About the Photo:
Sometimes the best photos can come from the least expected times. This was one of those times. Starting with a lazy Sunday and a sudden impulse to go to Grayson Highlands State park for sunset.
About 4pm on a Sunday, after an afternoon coffee, I had a sudden impulse to go to Grayson Highlands for sunset. It had been a quiet, relaxing day and I wanted to get out of the house. So, I grabbed my camera and headed out. Arriving about an hour before sunset, unsure of what the evening would bring, I checked out some spots.
After taking a few photos here, a few photos there I found myself on an overlook gazing into the layers of Blue Ridge Mountains. The sun had dipped behind the mountain range casting a beautiful light through the mountains. It was an incredible sight and one very characteristic of the Blue Ridge!
I went to take the photo and found my frame filled with the branches of a tree. It was blocking the section of mountains I wanted to capture. Frustration rising as the light was starting to fade, I stretched my arms out as far as I possibly could. With the camera hanging over a very intimidating drop, I took the photo.
Quickly checking the photo, I realized I missed the shot. “S**T!” I tried again, stretching a little farther. Checked, missed again! Finally, after a couple tries, I finally got the shot! Perfectly placing the mountains and layers in frame and that pesky tree becoming a perfect accent, nicely placed in the bottom right corner.
Successful, I made my way back to my car with the thought, “Man I'm glad I have long arms!”
