The wind was relentless that day, the kind that steals your breath and sends fine desert sand into every seam of, well everything.

I’d been tracking the light for hours, waiting for it to strike the cliff just right—turning the rock into gold and the sky into an endless canvas. As the light settled, casting a sort of halo on the top, my subject appeared. A cowboy, weathered and unhurried, riding toward the edge. 

I scrambled to position myself, balancing on a narrow ledge with the drop yawning beneath me. 

My heart pounded—not from the height, but from knowing I had only seconds before he turned away. As the horse’s hooves clinked against the rock, I caught the frame: man, beast, and sky—alone in a vast, silent world. The moment vanished as quickly as it came, but the image carries every ounce of the challenge it took to capture it
