I’ve always loved taking photos of the Blue Ridge Mountains. There are so many photos of them but seeing the view in person is always just a little better than the photo. The True Beauty always seems to evade the photograph which seems to create a draw that no one can deny.
I have taken many photos of them, and don’t get me wrong, they have all been amazing. But I’ve always felt like they were missing something... until now!
I headed out to a location I had scouted a few times, unsure what to expect. The spot was a beautiful knoll that rose above several other rolling hills in the middle of nowhere. Unfortunately, the trees were full and my view obstructed. Above me, the sky was giving hint to something spectacular about to happen.
My only option to capture the photo was to bring out the drone. Launching it, I started the search for the perfect spot. As I flew down the field, I suddenly lost connection. The screen went black with a red alert: “Connection Lost!”
I had been flying relatively fast, but I knew I was close to the ground, and there was nothing around for miles. So, I wasn’t worried about damage to anything but the drone itself. Seconds that felt like hours passed by, my panic building. The screen flickered. Hope! Then, without warning the screen came back on, connection resumed. I pulled back the joystick just before the drone crashed to the ground.
My adrenaline finally coming down I decided it was time to get the shot. I flew it to height, found my line and fired off this 5 shot beautiful panoramic! I finally feel like I captured the Blue Ridge Mountains in all her beauty – finally capturing that elusive “True Beauty!”
