About the Photo:
Beneath the vast Utah night, I framed a scene that felt suspended between earth and sky. In the foreground stood a rusty farm sprinkler, weathered and skeletal, a relic of the farm’s history.
Behind it, two towering mesas guarded the horizon, their silhouettes etched against the rising glow of the Milky Way. Every detail was deliberate—the alignment of stars, the balance of land and relic—yet the photograph holds something I could not have planned, something unique and unknown.
On the left of the frame burns a streak of red light, a flare with no source, no explanation. It appeared only once, in that single exposure, and never again. At first, I questioned it—was it a flaw, an error? But the more I looked, the more I felt it belonged: a reminder that the desert sky cannot be tamed, that mystery is as much a part of the image as the stars themselves. This piece is more than a photograph—it is a collaboration with the unknown, where the land, the heavens, and something unseen all converged in a single, unrepeatable moment.
